Adya Natural’s is a farmers’ co-operative which started as an independent organic farm in 2009 and spawned into an co-operative of organic farmers who unite on a platform with a mission to make organic farming sustainable, inclusive and fair.

Our objective is to

Promote organic farming – Led by experts in the domain of organic farming
Bring organic produce directly to consumers – Organic produce at a fair price to farmer and the consumer
Create a support for organic farmers – Support farmers in farming techniques, harvesting, certification, processing, packaging and storage

The Origin

Mr Nanda Kumar Kasha, farmer (founder) of adya naturals spent over 20+ years in software UX design field. However, his interest towards farming was fulfilled when he procured his own farmland in 2009 at his native village – Mirdoddi, Medak in the state of Telangana. Mr Nanda Kumar Kasha firmly believes that farming if done scientifically using traditional techniques and without the use of toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, will sustain both the farmer and the ecology and ultimately the consumer can enjoy produce that is both safe, nutritious and healthy. He started off with growing rice using traditional organic techniques and using SIRI method of cultivation. Mr Nanda Kumar believes that soil is the cornerstone in organic farming, as a rich and healthy soil produces crops that are healthy and nutritious. This along with compatible inter-croppingv techniques provide the right balance in the eco system for a sustainable farm. With inputs from Telangana state horticulture department and guidance from ANGRAU he also started growing corn, beans, pulses and vegetables. Under the guidance laid out by the central government institute, NIPHM (National Institute of Plant Health Management) he has adopted natural and ecofriendly ways of pest and plant health management techniques that boosts the growth, nutrition value and disease resistance factors in crops. He cultivated papaya, guava and mango in organic methods whose taste and quality was appreciated by the local farmers and consumers and was a source of inspiration to farmers in the surrounding villages. Farm to Market – the challenges Initially, what started as something that was self-consumed or shared with friends and relatives soon grew big and the demand of safe and toxic food began to increase by the day. Also, the conventional farming techniques since the green revolution have used harmful synthetic pesticides indiscriminately and consistently, unmindful of the long term damage being done to the ecology and ultimately human health. Realizing the importance of consuming true organic, nutritional and safe food and the lack of its availability, Mr Nanda Kumar Kasha began organic farming in a large scale using traditional organic farming techniques. Farming apart, marketing or selling organic produce locally to consumer is an altogether different challenge. Getting a fair share of a rupee sold, is a trial which not all marginal organic farmers can endure. Based on his own experience of trying to market his produce to organic retail outlets in Hyderabad, he realized that marginal farmers need a support system that ensures the produce is directly sold to consumers so that farmers can get a fair share for their produce.

Mission

Adya Naturals, an initiative by Mr Nanda Kumar is a farmers’ co-operative with a mission to create a platform so that marginal farmers and farmer network groups can sell their produce directly to the consumer for a fair price both for the farmer and the end consumer. Adya naturals, as a farmers’ cooperative will work towards Capacity building of farmers through Trainings, Demonstrations, Inspections, Certification etc. Creating awareness about chemical free foods among the farmers. Provide a unique ID to the farmers for traceability record management. Web based traceability management for organic production. On-farm Input management (Compost, Vermi-Compost, Vermi-wash, NADEP, CPP etc). Internal control systems (ICS Management) for effective organic technique implementation Supply of organic certified Bio-fertilizers and Bio-pesticides. Soil Sampling & Testing. To improve the soil health for sustainable production. To improve the skill of farmers for adoption of Organic Farming. To channelize the certifying agency and maintain the traceability of the farm. Marketing management of organic Horticultural and Agricultural produce.
